Every year, when we begin our Three Little Wishes campaign, I am reminded just how quickly life can change. How an ordinary day can become the day that divides your life into before and after.
This year, I’d like you to meet Paula Kemp and her beautiful 11-year-old son, Grayson.
Paula is a young single Mama, a talented hairstylist, a business owner and, by all accounts, one of those women who just lights up a room.
You know the type. The friend who shows up when you need her. The woman who makes you laugh, makes you feel beautiful and somehow manages to make everyone around her feel a little better.
That’s Paula.
And like every Mama, the centre of her world is her little boy, Grayson.
Just over two years ago, Paula was diagnosed with cervical cancer. She was only 30 years old.
At the time, she had recently taken a leap of faith and started her own business, The Vibe Beauty. She was doing something she loved, building a future for herself and her son.
And then everything changed.
What followed was a gruelling journey of chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, hospital visits and more uncertainty than anyone should ever have to face.
As a self-employed single Mama, being unable to work meant losing the income she depended on to support herself and Grayson. And as the months turned into years, the financial burden continued to grow.
Then came more devastating news.
Paula’s cancer had progressed to stage four.
After more than two years of fighting, she has faced serious complications, additional surgeries and the heartbreaking reality that her treatment options have become increasingly limited.
But here’s something you should know about Paula.
She is NOT giving up.
In fact, when someone tells Paula she can’t do something, she has a very simple response.
“WATCH ME!”
And I believe her.
My dear friend Nancy McMillan introduced me to Paula, and recently we had the privilege of spending a beautiful afternoon with her, Grayson and Paula’s Mom.
It was one of those lovely, sunny days, and we spent our time sharing stories, laughing and getting to know one another.
Paula was genuinely happy to meet us, excited about our connection and full of conversation. She even gave me some styling tips for my hair! Ha! Once a hairstylist, always a hairstylist!
And Grayson.
What an extraordinary young man.
At just 11 years old, he has a wisdom and maturity well beyond his years. He is thoughtful, attentive and so clearly devoted to his Mama.
You can’t help but be touched by the love between them.
Paula has already travelled to Germany to pursue additional treatment, and she is determined to return.
Right now, though, her little body needs to get stronger.
When we met, Paula weighed just 75 pounds. Her goal is to reach 95 pounds so she can be strong enough to make the journey back to Germany and continue exploring treatment.
Twenty pounds.
For Paula, those twenty pounds represent hope. Another opportunity. Another chance to keep fighting for the future she wants with her son.
And behind every appointment, every treatment and every difficult decision is an 11-year-old boy who simply needs his Mama.
He wants the things every child wants.
Hugs. Laughter. Ordinary days. His Mama beside him.
And Paula wants more of those days, too.
More birthdays. More Christmas mornings. More silly conversations. More memories.
More time.
I think that’s the part of these stories that always stays with me.
We spend so much of our lives wishing for things. A beautiful home. A wonderful holiday. A little more money. A little less stress.
And then you meet a family like Paula and Grayson, and you’re reminded that sometimes the biggest wish of all is simply another day together.
This is why Three Little Wishes means so much to us at glamjulz.
Every year, we have the privilege of introducing you to a family whose lives have been turned upside down by cancer. And every year, our beautiful glamjulz community reminds me what can happen when women come together to make a difference.
We can’t take away Paula’s cancer. Oh, how I wish we could.
But together, we can help ease some of the financial burden. We can help with the everyday expenses that don’t stop just because life has become unimaginably difficult.
And perhaps most importantly, we can remind Paula that she and Grayson are not facing this alone.
We are so grateful to Paula and her family for welcoming us into their lives and allowing us to share their story.
When you’re choosing gifts for the people you love this holiday season, I hope you’ll consider our 2026 Three Little Wishes julz.
Because sometimes a beautiful piece of jewelry can mean so much more than something pretty to wear.
Sometimes it can help make a wish come true.
And Paula?
Something tells me she has a few more things she’d like to show the world.
“WATCH ME!”
We appreciate you and we know the [glamjulz] community is here to support the Paula and Grayson in any way that we can. With your help, we are able to make a huge difference in the lives of families suffering from the financial burdens of cancer.
