Growing up in Oakville in the 70’s and 80’s, we had a restaurant called Mei Foo Gardens. They had these paper place mats with pictures of different animals on them. There was a rat, an ox, a tiger, a rabbit, a dragon, a snake a horse a goat, a monkey, a rooster, a dog and a pig.
I was so intrigued by the place mats as a kid! I loved to read them, they showed how each animal represented a different horoscope depending on the year you were born. I figured out quite quickly that I was a Rooster, my Mom was a Rabbit and my brother and my Dad were Pigs, ha ha!
After the meal the waitress at Mei Foo would ask what horoscope you were and then send you home with a lovely scroll wound up tightly in clear plastic. It would further explain all of the characteristics of your horoscope animal and what was coming up for you that year as it related to wealth, health and relationships.
I’ve always been interested in learning about how other cultures celebrate different times of year and I especially love that the other side of the world celebrates the New Year at a completely different time than we do.
If you celebrate the Lunar Year or you know about it then you know that as of February 16th 2018 we are officially into the Year of the Dog. This means if you were born in the year 1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, or 2006. It’s your year, baby!
You might also like to google who your fellow celebrity dogs are. A few of my faves are Michael Jackson, George Gershwin, Heather Graham, Jessica Biel and Ellen DeGeneres.
As a matter of fact our very own Dawn Bartels, here at the glamjulz studio is a dog and, as you probably noticed from our Halloween posts last year, she is a huge Madonna fan! Also another dog!
They say dogs are loyal, honest and have a tendency to fall head over heels in love. What a bunch of great people to have in our lives.
Now, you might be wondering how the year of the dog will affect you personally. There are a lot of great books out there that can help you with that, if you want to do a complete analysis right down to the day and time you were born.
But for now, let’s talk about what this year has in store for all of us.
It looks like we have a rewarding and profitable year ahead of us, folks. The chaotic year of the Rooster has come to an end and the Year of the Dog promises to show all of our hard work coming to fruition.
All of those seeds we have been sowing are going to blossom and thrive this year.
There is a big stress on staying true to yourself this year. Do the things that make you happy and keep you in balance. We all need to make sure our health is a primary focus, so eat foods that will fuel you, make exercise a habit if you haven’t already and make sure you get enough sleep.
It’s a good idea to keep semi-precious stones around you to protect you from negative energy. Hematite would be the ideal stone to keep in your pocket for 2018 as it absorbs negative energy and calms you in times of stress.
Okay, shameless plug here, I actually created julz this week to give us all protection! Did you see them?
I know, at our house Boink thinks every year is all about her and she’s probably right! Now I know why people call their dogs their best friends. Boink makes me melt everyday with those big brown eyes filled with adoration, her wet slobbery kisses, the tail that goes back and forth with the little bum shake when I get home at night and how she snuggles up on my lap for the night when Wayne and I are busy holding down the couch watching movies.
If you are like me, you are excited for the year ahead! All of that hard work you’ve been doing is going to really pay off. Harmony, peace and goodwill is all a part of that too! It’s going to be a magical year of unity and understanding!
There you go, feel better? Good! Now go put your feet up, pour yourself another glass of wine, it’s time to picture all of the wonderful things that you will experience in 2018.
