I’ve heard it said time and time again, a handful of good friends is all you really need in life.
What if I said that more than a handful is also wonderful? Would I be wrong?
I have the friends I grew up with, the friends I’ve worked with and the friends I’ve bonded with as life has changed and pointed me in different directions.
My old friends keep me grounded, they remember me from the beginning and understand my deepest fears, my greatest joys and have seen me evolve and overcome obstacles big and small.
Many of my oldest friendships date back as far as Kindergarten. Let’s not forget Dawn! We were already friends when her Mommy was pregnant and my 7 month old self was thinking…hey Dawn, hurry up and get out here! We’ve got a whole lifetime to go play in!
My new friends are those angels who have shown up later in my life. The ones that I hung out with a couple of times and all of a sudden it feels like I’ve known them for a lifetime. These friends see me in a different light. They see my strength and unlimited possibility, the good stuff that I haven’t even noticed myself.
My new friends keep coming and coming. I meet people in my business all the time, I meet a lot of amazing friends when I’m traveling. I feel closely connected to so many people and I know that no matter where I go I have love and support all around me.
Friendships are wonderful, people are beautiful. The feeling of being an important part of someone else’s life is a warm, fuzzy, magical feeling.
Both types of friendships are a blessing and both are the family I have chosen.
Today as I lie here in my turkey coma with Boink on my lap and a hot cup of “Glühwein” in my hand I feel thankful for the people in my life who love me and accept me as I am.
I am grateful for the person I am today because of the people I choose to surround myself with.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I would LOVE to hear what makes you thankful today. Please leave your comments on my blog before the tryptophan hits your brain.
