Atacama Alignment is inspired by the otherworldly beauty of Chile’s Atacama Desert—a remote, luxurious sanctuary where the vastness of the Earth meets one of the clearest night skies on the planet. Beneath this extraordinary celestial canopy, meteor showers streak across the darkness, planets blaze more brightly, and the moon illuminates a landscape that feels almost untouched by time.

This piece was born during a remarkable convergence of celestial inspiration: the Perseid meteor showers, the mystery of an eclipse, the radiant Full Moon in Leo, and Jupiter’s journey through Leo—a period associated with expansion, abundance, courage and the confidence to shine more brilliantly. Together, they inspired the idea of alignment: those rare moments when the universe seems to whisper that everything is exactly where it is meant to be.

In the Atacama, that feeling becomes almost tangible. Above, an infinite universe of light. Below, an ancient landscape shaped by volcanoes, minerals, salt flats and extraordinary geological formations. Atacama Alignment lives in the space between the two—a meeting of earth and cosmos, darkness and radiance, ancient crystal and distant stars.

The Craftsmanship

Atacama Alignment is an extraordinary celebration of genuine Swarovski™ Crystals, meticulously curated in an unexpected celestial palette of brilliant clear crystal, smoky charcoal, fiery orange, vivid pink, turquoise, green, blue and warm desert-inspired tones.

Delicate strands of Swarovski™ crystal cascade around the neckline like a sky scattered with distant points of light, while dramatic crystal drops descend from the necklace like the brilliant trails of the Perseid meteor shower. Dark hematite stars punctuate the design, creating a striking contrast between shadow and illumination—a subtle nod to the mystery of an eclipse and the deep black skies of the Atacama.

At the heart of the piece is something truly exceptional: the Swarovski™ 6926 Growing Crystal Rhombus Pendant, envisioned by renowned couturier Iris van Herpen.

Featuring up to 500 individually hand-embedded cones designed to maximize light refraction, this remarkable crystal resembles the cross-section of a natural druse formation. Its intricate structure appears to grow inward, filling the cavity at its centre and creating the illusion of a crystal almost coming alive. Inspired by the fractured surfaces and complex geometry found in naturally occurring crystals, it is a breathtaking meeting of nature, science, couture and Swarovski innovation.

As light enters the pendant, it fractures, shifts and explodes into colour—like a tiny universe captured inside a crystal.

The Design & Labour

Atacama Alignment is a labour of artisanal devotion, requiring hours of intentional hand assembly to create its dramatic, celestial cascade. Rather than following rigid symmetry, the necklace was composed organically, allowing the individual Swarovski™ crystals, hematite stars and suspended drops to find their own rhythm across the neckline.

The design begins with delicate points of crystal light before becoming progressively more dramatic as it travels downward. Hematite stars emerge from the darkness, brilliant Swarovski™ drops appear to fall through the composition like meteors, and every line ultimately draws the eye toward the magnificent Growing Crystal at its centre.

There is symbolism in that journey.

Above us, the universe. Beneath us, the Earth. And between the two, we are still becoming.

Just as the Growing Crystal appears to form inward from fractured surfaces, Atacama Alignment celebrates the idea that beauty does not require perfection. We continue to grow, change, expand and refract the experiences that shape us into something entirely our own.
