The Floating Necklace – Vintage Late ’90s Design
A little sparkle, suspended in time.
In the late ’90s, I started experimenting with crimps — a small but game-changing detail that opened up a whole new world of design possibilities for me.
There was a designer in New York who was making these beautiful “illusion” necklaces, where the beads looked like they were floating on your skin. I was so inspired by the simplicity and elegance of that look, I decided to create my own version — and that’s how these floating glamjulz were born.
From single strands priced at $20, to elaborate 10-strand showstoppers at $100, this design really grew and evolved over the years. Each one was made by hand, with crystal and glass beads that seem to hover like little droplets of light.
But in 2001, these pink four strand floating necklaces were a “newer” design with a purpose.
I created a limited series of Pink Ribbon Floaters to raise money for Breast Cancer support in our community — The second time glamjulz combined creativity with giving back. It was a powerful moment, and now, 24 years later, it’s time to do it again.
Today, we’re donating proceeds from these vintage pink floaters to our friends at the BRIGHT Run.
For the past 18 years, BRIGHT Run has raised over $6.5 million for breast cancer research right here in Hamilton. All staying local. Their amazing chair, Nancy McMillan ensures that every dollar goes where it matters most — not even a cent is spent on a post-it note!
Because of BRIGHT Run, we’ve seen incredible advances in research, treatment, and technology that directly impact the lives of those in our community.
These pink floaters are more than just jewellery — they’re a tribute to how far we’ve come, and a way to help carry that progress forward.

I was lucky enough to discover glamjulz when my friend Rachel invited me to a trunk show at her hotel. I was pleasantly surprised! Monica, the designer, has truly created beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. I am constantly getting complimented on my necklace and earrings when I wear them and they literally go with everything. I am able to wear them with my business suits or jeans and a t-shirt on the weekend. So many colors, so many styles. She can even give you great ideas on what might look great to wear them with and can do custom orders. I also love how charitable glamjulz is. At the trunk show here, Monica gave a portion of her sales to a local not-for-profit here in the Florida Keys and she regularly raises funds for other non-profits in Canada. There is nothing like doing good and getting something special at the same time. I recently saw a new piece I had to have and Monica made ordering it a breeze. This is not an easy feat considering we live in two different countries and are as far away from each other as could be on the continent of North America. I can't wait for my new julz!
