Is Mother’s Day more than just about being a Mom?

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!

Today many of you are spending the day with your Mom and your children.  Some of you are reflecting on memories you once had with your Mom and others don’t have children of their own.  Perhaps you are finding today tough.

Scrolling through Facebook and looking at everyone else’s happy pictures could possibly add salt to the wound.  Today might just be one of the harder days in the year for you.

I wanted to reach out to you today to let you know it’s okay and today can be a happy day for you too.

My dear friend Rosemary once said to me, “You know Monica, just because you made a decision not to have children does not mean that you are not a Mom.”

Those words stuck with me and made me realize something.  I think that the most wonderful thing about being a woman is our innate ability to love and nurture.  It’s in our makeup and it’s what we do best.

I want you to think about something today.  Whether you are like me and chose not to have children, or you were not able to have them.  If you have lost your Mom or never knew her.  YOU, my friend, make a difference in people’s lives every day.

Today is not only a day that you can celebrate all of the amazing Moms that you know but it is also a day to celebrate yourself.

Think about the time you treated a friend to dinner and listened to what was troubling her, the time you motivated your friend to get out for a power walk with you, you cooked a meal for a friend, you called a friend to check in, you sent her flowers, or you just hugged your friend so hard that she couldn’t help but have all your good energy transfer directly to her.

These acts of kindness are more than just kind.  They come from a place deep within your heart.  A place where you can’t help but want to take care of a person you love, a strong force that makes you want to give whatever you have to that friend and make it better.

I think that’s what being a Mom is all about and WOW are we girls ever lucky to have each other. I, for one, feel very lucky to have YOU in my world.

glamjulz is my kid, my baby and without the nurturing I receive from all of you this baby would never have become what it is today.  They say it takes a village to raise a child.  I love my village!

Monica, how did you get to be so wise? You have no idea how profoundly your words have touched me today. I have reread them a few times, blubbering more and more. Mother’s Day has always been difficult for me, having lost my mum when I was only 9 years old. Today, you have given me a new way to look at this day, and I will be forever grateful. xo
