Love, Kindness and the Year of the Pig

Are you into the horoscope stuff or not?  Some people live by it and some people think it’s a bunch of baloney.

I have always been intrigued.  Any theories that are magical and connected to the moon, the stars, and the big beautiful Universe, I’m IN!

I suppose I love it so much because it gives me hope.  When things aren’t going my way it’s comforting to hear that mercury is in retrograde.  When I might become frustrated with someone in my life I will often refer to the characteristics of their star sign to help me gain compassion for them.  Am I crazy?  Maybe, but so far it’s working for me.

So, in case you haven’t heard, the Year of the Pig is all about wealth, abundance and a whole lot of good luck.  If you were born between February 5th and February 4th of the following years, this is YOUR year!  1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 and of course 2019.

Traditionally, our culture kicks off the New Year on January 1st.   The Lunar New Year gives us a chance to celebrate in a different way and take a close look at what the moon cycles  have in store for us, depending on our birth year.  I was born in 1969 which makes it the year of the Rooster.  It is strongly advised that I keep my head down and work diligently on my goals this year.  It is important to surround myself with people who expect more of me.  This will propel me to reach my goals and not waver.  I love this, I already feel like I’m going to get the most out of this year by following this one piece of advice.

So, when I think about all of my goals and what is important to me this year, spreading love and kindness is a huge component.  I’m going to work on this goal especially hard on February 14th! The most romantic day of the year.

Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love but it does not have to be in a romantic way.  It’s a day to tell the people in our lives how much we love them, what they mean to us and how they have influenced us to be better.  It’s also a day to think about how every move we make has a butterfly effect on mother earth who provides for us.  We have coral dying in the Great Barrier Reef and ice caps melting in the Arctic from years of abuse and neglect.  It’s time for humankind to not only spread love and kindness to each other but also to the planet we call home, the one that loves us and provides for us.

When I think about wealth and abundance and a whole lot of good luck, it’s not about money.  I dream of a world where there is enough food to feed everyone, clean water is flowing and our species can live in healthy environments with no threat of extinction.

So, in celebration of this Year of the Pig, let’s achieve prosperity by being kind to our neighbours and offering to help people in need, let’s love our planet and treat it with as much respect as we would give to our own mothers.

Finally, please remember to be good to yourself, abolish negative self talk and start talking out loud about how proud you are of everything you have accomplished.  Stand up for what you believe in, do more of it and know that YOU make a positive impact in this world, just by being you!
