What’s up with Christmas in July?

Oooh I know some people can’t stand Christmas in July!  Hello?  Why do we even want to go there right now?  The sun is shining and we are trying desperately to get every drop of summer into us.  Fill up with Vitamin D before yet another winter comes around.

I’m thinking back to the mid 70’s for a minute.  For our family having a cottage up north meant lots of sunshine, swimming and fishing BUT whenever we passed through Bracebridge it would be. “Mom, Dad pleeeeeeaaase can we go to (more…)

July 20, 1969 . . .

Where were you on July 20th 1969?  I don’t remember where I was but I know I was happily hanging out in my Mom’s belly for another month before I decided to spring out into the world.

Pretty soon I’ll be celebrating my 50th birthday but we can talk about that another time!  This weekend Wayne and I enjoyed a weekend with my Mom.  She told the story of what it was like to watch Neil (more…)

Your Future Self will Thank You!

Sometimes it’s a challenge to think about fulfilling goals.  Whether they are business or personal goals I’ve always disliked the question, “Where do you plan on being five years from now?”

Not only does this make me feel like I’m zooming through life way too fast, but it also makes me feel anxious.  Goals that are set in stone and so regimented leave little room for spontaneity.  Sometimes it’s fun to hop off the beaten path and start traveling on a completely different one.

However, I will say (more…)

On Line Shopping Endorphins

What is it about on line shopping that makes us feel so good? Is it the thrill of the find, especially when it’s a great sale?  Is it discovering something no one else will have?  Is it the convenience of the package being delivered right to your doorstep, sometimes the next day

Last week I found a great deal on some (more…)

Oh Canada! How lucky are we?

A few years ago a dear friend of mine was moving from BC back to Ontario.  I was so excited about her coming back home,  I decided to fly out and drive all the way back with her.  Having never driven across Canada before, it was quite an adventure. The landscape was beautiful and each  province was picturesque in it’s own unique way.

The moment that took my breath away was when (more…)

How to Keep That “Raptors Win” Feeling

What an exciting whirlwind of a week this has been!  The Raptors won the NBA championship and I’m pretty sure that every single human in Canada was jumping up and down as high as a basketball hoop on Thursday night!  The after-glow continues and once again we not only feel proud of our team but united and proud as a nation!

This is the stuff we need more of.  Being Canadian is not always (more…)

Taking Care of Mother Earth

Since I met Catherine over 15 years ago she has always talked about having her own cottage.  A beautiful place on the water where she could escape and be at one with nature.  She could swim, meditate and practice yoga, all from the comfort of her own private dock.

Over the years that I’ve know her, Catherine has been self-employed.  She’s one of those people who is (more…)

19 for a night . . .

It’s been an exciting couple of weeks! We’ve had friends visiting from Germany and their daughter Emma is staying a little longer to help me out at the studio and experience some more of the Canadian culture, eh?

Last week Emma and I went to Ontario Place to see (more…)

Kindergarten, Mrs. Corbett and What a Little Birdie Taught Me  . . .

Can you go back in time to Kindergarten?  Can you go there in your mind and remember any significant moments about it?  I actually do have some doozies!  My first memory being a thought at recess as I looked down at a pile of pebbles and thought, “Why am I wasting my time here at this school?  I need to make money and free my Mom and Dad from having to go to work every day, I need to sell a million pebbles for $1 each and our family will be free to do whatever we want!”  Ah yes, my first entrepreneurial thought, but that one’s for another blog . . .

By the time I got to Kindergarten I had a new found (more…)

Before you click to amazon.ca . . .

When we think about “shop local” we often think about attending the local craft show, getting our produce from the farmer’s market, purchasing a new outfit from that cute little boutique where the owner knows us by name.

The experiences we have when we support local businesses are gratifying not only for (more…)
