Remember when you were a kid and you would play for hours, not a care in the world. You and your friends loved being together as you laughed and played with no concept of time. You were happy for hours with these people.
Then, as your circle grew, maybe a new little friend joined in who wouldn’t share toys, cried when he or she didn’t get their way or was a voice of gloom and doom, especially when they spoke negatively about your other friends.
Ugggh, remember that kid? Then you would feel (more…)
Is it just me or have you noticed the fear perpetuating itself throughout our communities? You go to the grocery store and everyone has their heads down, no one is making eye contact and we’re all trying desperately to stay six feet away from each other.
I totally get it. I do it too. I feel like when I’m out getting (more…)
Sure these times are tough. This is something that none of us, in our adult life have ever experienced before! This is just off the rails crazy.
It is a privilege that we have homes where we can be safe and stay at home but our anxiety and worry grows. We are concerned about our health, the health of our loved ones and our finances. Not to mention there are people (more…)
Our group was tight. We were thick as thieves. We did everything together! Hit the malls, never miss a dance, hang out in each other’s basements, crash bush parties, spend Sunday afternoons at the movies and yak on the phone for hours when we couldn’t be together.
Sound familiar? If you’re a Gen X kid like me, of course it does!
I LOVED my teens! Like totally and completely LOVED them! But . . .
Here we are. In our homes, waiting out the spread of this Corona Virus. As with anything stressful that comes our way in life, there is a good side and a bad side. The question is, where will you focus your energy?
Personally, I am choosing to stay informed but not obsessed. We’ve got talented doctors and research teams to handle this virus. So, what will you be doing with your time while we wait this thing out?
Sometimes all it takes is one special person to see you through the hard times and believe in you so that you can make a difference in the world.
Karin Kolb is doing just that for a very special family in Barbados.
Karin met the family in 2013/14 when she lived in Barbados with her family. She has seen this family through some really tough times, with various health issues. Now she is (more…)
As soon as March hits, my mind is flooded with memories of family trips to Florida. What a lucky kid I was! I still remember my Dad driving the whole way. My Mom would sit in the front and cut up fruit for everyone, feeding my Dad as he drove and my brother and I would be squished in the back seat with our Oma while she puffed on her Matinee Extra Mild cigarettes. Oh, those were the days.
If you grew up during this time I’m sure you have some pretty fond memories as well. Perhaps we even share some! I hope so. XO
1) Music for the car ride – My Dad was in control of what was played in the car, he was the driver so that was his decision. He always enjoyed relaxing music with simple lyrics that he could sing along to. You guessed it – “Yacht Rock” is what we listened to. Some of my favourite songs are from many of the One or Two Hit Wonder Bands that monopolized the air waves back in those days. Songs like “How Long” by Ace, “I Love You” by The Climax Blues Band, “Him, Him, Him” by Rupert Holmes and “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” by Elvin Bishop. (more…)
On this Valentine’s/Family Day weekend I had the pleasure of spending some quality time in Toronto with my beautiful Mama.
We arrived in the city just after 11, found the perfect parking spot and took a chilly walk over to Milestones where we sat high in the air overlooking Dundas Square. We made a decision that ordering a glass of wine with our early lunch was a great way to start our day. Our crisp and refreshing glasses of Inniskillin Sauvignon Blanc arrived at the table along with some delicious Calamari to share. We talked about Yonge Street and all of the changes my Mom had seen since the 50’s when she and my Dad would come down to buy their (more…)
If you want to make a change in your life you need to do things differently? Am I right?
My year kicked off with something I have never done before. Instead of locking myself inside my cozy studio and working day in and day out on my business plans I decided to dedicate the month of January to trying new things that would feed my soul.
On January the 9th I got on an airplane with 12 other women and headed to (more…)
