My husband has a little sign at his desk, it says, “Do Less, Be More.”  Today we had a chat about this little sign and he made a good point.  While we are doing less it is important that we be more.

There are some artists in our neighbourhood who are doing just that.  I am guessing these artists are probably between the ages of six and twenty.

In the evening we like to go for our family walk!  Wayne, Boink and I.  We are fortunate to live in an area where there is a wide path and we can safely walk six feet apart from other people.  Along this path is a fence (more…)

A months ago I had no idea who Dr. Bonnie Henry was.  In case you need an introduction she is British Columbia’s provincial health officer.

Dr. Henry has been a voice of reason and hope for Canadians, using phrases like be kind, be calm and be safe as we work through this global pandemic.

Remember when you were a kid and you would play for hours, not a care in the world.  You and your friends loved being together as you laughed and played with no concept of time.  You were happy for hours with these people.

Then, as your circle grew, maybe a new little friend joined in who wouldn’t share toys, cried when he or she didn’t get their way or was a voice of gloom and doom, especially when they spoke negatively about your other friends.

Is it just me or have you noticed the fear perpetuating itself throughout our communities?  You go to the grocery store and everyone has their heads down, no one is making eye contact and we’re all trying desperately to stay six feet away from each other.

Sure these times are tough.  This is something that none of us, in our adult life have ever experienced before!  This is just off the rails crazy.

It is a privilege that we have homes where we can be safe and stay at home but our anxiety and worry grows.  We are concerned about our health, the health of our loved ones and our finances.  Not to mention there are people (more…)

Our group was tight.  We were thick as thieves.  We did everything together!  Hit the malls, never miss a dance, hang out in each other’s basements, crash bush parties, spend Sunday afternoons at the movies and yak on the phone for hours when we couldn’t be together.

Sound familiar?  If you’re a Gen X kid like me, of course it does!

2020 marks the 20 year anniversary of glamjulz !  With all of this time to reflect, it’s had me looking back on the most wonderful times.

As soon as March hits, my mind is flooded with memories of family trips to Florida.  What a lucky kid I was!  I still remember my Dad driving the whole way.  My Mom would sit in the front and cut up fruit for everyone, feeding my Dad as he drove and my brother and I would be squished in the back seat with our Oma while she puffed on her Matinee Extra Mild cigarettes.  Oh, those were the days.

If you grew up during this time I’m sure you have some pretty fond memories as well.  Perhaps we even share some! I hope so. XO

1)      Music for the car ride – My Dad was in control of what was played in the car, he was the driver so that was his decision.  He always enjoyed relaxing music with simple lyrics that he could sing along to.  You guessed it – “Yacht Rock” is what we listened to.  Some of my favourite songs are from many of the One or Two Hit Wonder Bands that monopolized the air waves back in those days.  Songs like “How Long” by Ace, “I Love You” by The Climax Blues Band, “Him, Him, Him” by Rupert Holmes and “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” by Elvin Bishop.
